DM/BW-853 – Blankenhalde – 871m (2)

My second activation of Blankenhalde, this time together with DC1SAF.

Wx: Sunny, few clouds, approx. 25°C, light winds
Walking time: almost zero – drive on location
Ascent/ descent: approx. few vertical metres

Rig: KX3 / 10W,  7.2Ah SLAB, Palm Mini Paddle, Belcom LS202E / 3W for VHF
Ant: EFHW dipole w/ QRP-L-Tuner as inverted L on a 10m squid pole, MFJ1714 for VHF

Condx seemed to be good. DC1SAF worked one station from NA on 20 metres.
k = 1, SFI = 77

14 QSOs on 40m CW
12 QSOs on 60m CW, 7 x S2S
2   QSOs on 60m SSB, 1 x S2S

Highlight:
– First CW SOTA activation of DC1SAF
– Because of the HB9SOTA-weekend an incredible number of Swiss activators was QRV. Many of them could be worked on 2m FM with my old Belcom LS202E and about 3 watts output power.
– Great aerial views of the summit thanks to Fabian’s quadrocopter

Walking time: 20 min. up, 12 min. down
Ascent/ descent: approx. 160 vertical metres

Rig: KX3 / 10W, 2.5Ah Li-Ion battery (4S), Palm Mini Paddle
Ant: 42 ft (12.8m) random wire as inverted Vee on a tree.

Conditions seemed to be good. The OK/OM contest caused some QRM on 20 CW and 40 CW.

Trans-Atlantic S2S QSO Party from DM/BW-110 – Limburg– 598m (2)

My second activation of Limburg – this time for the Trans-Atlantic S2S QSO Party.

Wx: Sunny, approx. 11°C, no clouds
Walking time: 25 min. up, 15 min. down
Ascent/ descent: approx. 200 vertical metres

Rig: KX3 / 10W, 2.5Ah Li-Ion battery (4S), Palm Mini Paddle
Ant: 42 ft (12.8m) random wire as inverted L on a 6m squid pole with a single radial

Conditions on the higher bands were very good. Even 15m was open to NA.  SFI = 94 (thanks to sunspot 2780 and 2781!) k = 0

17 CW QSOs on 20m, 5 x S2S (3 x NA)
20 CW QSOs on 17m, 12 x S2S (7 x NA)
1 CW QSO on 15m, 1 x S2S (1 x NA)

Highlights:
Worked 11 NA chasers, the farthest N6WT in CA
11 NA S2S QSOs, the farthest with WA7JTM on W7A/MN-154 in AZ

My first activation of Hohenstoffeln and Hohenhewen.

Wx: Sunny, partly cloudy, temp about 16°C.

Rig: KX3 / 10W, 2.5Ah Li-Ion battery (4S), Palm Mini Paddle
Ant: 22 m end fed wire with QRP L- Tuner set up as inverted L on a 6 metre squid pole.

Condx on all bands were good with little QSB and strong signals.
SFI = 72, k = 0

Hohenstoffeln DM/BW-085

QRV: 9:55 – 10:45 utc
Walking time: 30 min up, 20 min down.
Ascent/ descent: approx. 220 vertical metres

Walking time: 35 min up, 20 min down.

Highlights:
Nice activation of two interesting summits (volcanic rock).

Wx: Cloudy, temp about 14°C.
Walking time: 10 min up, 5 min down.
Ascent/ descent: approx. 60 vertical metres

Rig: KX3 / 10W, 2.5Ah Li-Ion battery (4S), Palm Mini Paddle
Ant: 22 m end fed wire with QRP L- Tuner set up as inverted L on a 6 metre squid pole.

Condx on all bands were poor with deep QSB and weak signals.
SFI = 73, k = 3

18 QSOs on 60 CW, 2 x S2S
13 QSOs on 40 CW, 3 x S2S

Highlights:
Nice activation and a surprising number of S2S QSOs for a weekday.

Lowlight: The KX3 was almost destroyed because of excessive battery voltage.

My fourth activation of Achalm, first time by bike/ foot.

Wx: sunny, light clouds and an approaching thunderstorm. Temp approx. 23°C
Cycling time: 75 min to the car park, 50 min back (18km one way)
Walking time: 20 min up, 12 min down
Ascent/ descent: Approx. 150 metres by bike and 185 metres on foot
Total duration: 9:25 UTC to 15:00 UTC

Rig: KX3 / 10W, 2.5Ah Li-Ion battery (4S), Palm Pico Paddle
Ant: 22 m end fed wire with QRP L- Tuner as inverted L on a 6m squid- pole.

Lots of QRN on the low bands. Good condx on 20 metres and 17 metres. k = 1, SFI = 73

My third activation of Lemberg, this time together with Fabian, DC1SAF.

Wx: Sunny in the morning, becoming increasingly cloudy, temp above 30°C in the afternoon.
Walking time: 20 min up, 15 min down
Ascent/ descent: Approx. 150 metres

Rig: KX3 / 10W, 2.9Ah AGM battery, charged by solar power, Palm Pico Paddle
Ant: 22 m end fed wire with QRP L- Tuner as inverted L in a  tree.

Condx were good on all bands according to the RBN-spots. k = 0, SFI = 72
However, activity on 30 metres and especially on 20 metres was very low this time.

Ascent/ descent: Approx. 70 metres

Rig: KX3 / 10W, 2.5Ah Li-Ion 4S battery, Palm Pico Paddle
Ant: 22 m end fed wire with QRP L- Tuner as inverted V in a  tree.

Condx on all bands were averag at best. The number of QSOs was down compared to the last activations. On the higher bands sporadic E was present which allowed many short skip contacts into EU. k = 1, SFI = 69
